Day Programmable Thermostat
What is the ideal temperature set back for a programmable thermostat?
If my objective is to save the most amount of money and if during the day I heat my house to 68, what temperature should I set back during the night? Do I save more money by going colder?
People have told me that I should not go more than 10 degrees because it will take the furnace more energy to heat the house back to normal. However, with this logic why would I lower the temperature at all?
I do the opposite. I set the thermostat during the day (when I am out) to around 78 degrees (with the ceiling fans running) and bring it down to around 72 when I am home.
Anyway, the temperatures that you set you thermostat at should be the temperature that will make you comfortable. Different people have different comfort levels. I am comfortable at 72 degrees.
Others might find it too cold for them and yet others might consider it warm for them. To each his/her own, I guess.
